Giovanni Brignone

Giovanni Brignone joined the Italian Foreign Service on 17 December 2001 and was initially assigned to the Directorate General for Development Cooperation (Office II – Multilateral Cooperation) and then to the Directorate General for Sub-Saharan Africa (Office IV – Austral Africa).

In June 2023 he was posted to the Embassy of Italy in Pretoria, as 2nd Secretary in charge of Consular and Commercial Affairs. In 2007 he moved to the Embassy of Italy in Lisbon, where he dealt with the same dossiers as 1st Secretary.

During the 2011 – 2014 period, he served at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, initially as Head of Office IX (Communication & Evaluation) at the Directorate General for Development Cooperation and, afterwards, as Chief of Staff of the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.

From 2014 to 2018 he was assigned to the Embassy of Italy in Beijing, where he first served as Media & Communication Officer and Development Cooperation Counsellor, and then as Economic & Commercial Counsellor. From 2018 to 2022 he was posted at the Embassy of Italy in Jakarta (2018 – 2022) as Deputy Head of Mission and Economic & Commercial Counsellor.

Reassigned to the Ministry on 23 August 2022, he has been working since then as Head of the Dual Use Division at UAMA (National Authority for Export Control for Armament and Dual-Use Materials).

Giovanni Brignone holds a University Degree in International Sciences and Diplomacy and has completed a post-grad course in International Affairs. He has also carried out academic studies in Foreign Languages and Literatures as well as in Development Cooperation..
